Pumpkins are some pretty magical fruits. Yep, they’re fruits, not vegetables. And if you want to get really specific, they’re actually berries. Not only did they help Cinderella get her Prince Charming, but they help us get in the mood for Halloween, make a pretty damn good pie, and have some amazing beauty benefits. That’s because they contain vitamins and nutrients that help give you glowing skin, just take a look below:
- Vitamin C: reduces free radicals and boosts collagen production
- Cartenoids: gives them their bright orange color. Helps reduce UV damage and improves skin texture
- Vitamin B: treats acne and improves circulation
- Zinc: protects cell membranes, promotes skin renewal, and fights acne
The best part is that there are tons of products that contain pumpkin, so you don’t have to eat it to get the benefits. I’ve recently become a fan of the Peter Lamas Exfoliating Pumpkin Facial Scrub ($28).
It exfoliates your skin chemically and physically. The physical exfoliant comes from apricot grains and micro-spheres that polish away dead skin cells and the chemical exfoliant is where the pumpkin comes in. It combines pumpkin enzymes and apple and almond acids to dissolve away debris and clear pores. It also contains pumpkin oil to help hydrate the skin. So basically you get a double dose of pumpkin with this product.
The first time I used this pumpkin scrub, my skin was noticeably softer and had a subtle glow to it. The more I used it I noticed that my skin texture improved and it felt a lot smoother. I love that it smells like sugar cookies–it adds something special to the experience. I’m definitely adding this scrub into my skincare routine a few times a week to help keep it in tip-top shape.
