Cover Dark Circles in Four Easy Steps

Dark circles under your eyes can be quite the nuisance, especially on days when you didn't get enough sleep the night before. That's why we got makeup artist Nikki Larose to give us a step-by-step guide on how to erase them. Find out how to do it and what products you need below.

Step 1: Foundation

You should ALWAYS apply your foundation first. If you do it before, you end up wiping it off. Plus, it's easier to see where you need to correct and conceal after you even out your skin tone with foundation. Just apply the concealer where you need that extra coverage.

Step 2: Correction

Use a highlighting pen like MAC Prep + Prime Highlighter ($26) in Radiant Rose and apply it just under the eye where it’s dark and around your tear ducts. Then blend it out with a Beauty Blender ($20).

Step 3: Concealer

Nikki uses a mix of two shades of concealer (she does the same for foundation too) to get the right color. In this case, she used MAC Pro Longwear Concealer ($21) in NW 15 and NW20. Apply the concealer to your under eye area with a brush and then blend it out. The Beauty Blender is key here because it buffs in the product, smooths it out, and removes any excess product that causes creases under your eyes if it’s left on.

A huge mistake people make with concealer is that they only apply it right under the eye and don’t blend it down. You want to make sure to create a V shape because we all tend to be dark all the way down to the cheekbones.

Step 4: Powder

Set the concealer with a brightening powder like Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder ($25). Press, don’t sweep, the powder over your concealer with a brush because you don’t want to wipe it off.
