Contouring Mistakes to Avoid and How to Fix Them

Although we’ve previously shared our simple secrets to on-the-go contouring, we know how easy it is for busy (or beginning!) beauty buffs to fall into makeup mess-ups. In our latest episode of The Cut with Susan Yara, we reveal the eight most common contouring mistakes — and how to avoid them!

Here, we’re giving a sneak peek at a few of our top takeaways, but you’ll have to watch the video for the full list of contouring tips and mistakes to avoid.

Don’t: Ignore your face shape
Contour accordingly, for example: round faces should contour under the cheekbones, along the temples, on the side of the forehead, and along the jawline, while heart-shaped faces should focus on the forehead, below the cheeks, and the tip of the chin, to name a few.

Don’t: Skimp on skincare!
Do: Prep your face with moisturizer — good skincare is always the best primer.

Don’t: Use the wrong brush
Do: Contour with an angled brush with loose bristles; a brush with tight bristles might build too much color in one area.

Below, check out the entire video to see how to avoid the most common contouring mistakes and see some of our product picks for getting that flawless face.
