California's Beauty Salons Can Now Serve Booze Thanks To A New Law

California's Beauty Salons Can Now Serve Booze Thanks To A New Law

Image: Drybar If you've ever gotten the haircut from hell and you live in California, there's a new law that can help ease the pain of fixing your unfortunate chop. As of January 1, hair salons and barbershops are officially allowed to serve alcohol to clients, bringing a whole new meaning to blowout bars (sorta).

The move follows Maryland's approval of a similar law back in 2014 that popular blowout chain Drybar (which has served bubbly since it opened) lobbied behind. Assembly Bill 1322 was officially signed by Governor Jerry Brown last September, but the law didn't take effect until the beginning of 2017. Known as the "Drybar Bill," the law allows beauty salons to serve wine and beer without an alcohol license, provided that they don't charge. However, don't think you can get hammered while getting highlights: drinks can only be served to clients who are 21+ (duh) and may not be poured past 10 p.m.

Of course, beauty studios must be "in good standing with the State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology" and the price for beauty services must be "the same regardless of whether beer or wine is served." We'll drink to that!
