5 Self-Tanners You Should Try This Summer

5 Self-Tanners You Should Try This Summer

Forget what you know about self-tanner. Thanks to new and innovative formulas, you can now build a healthy glow without orange streaks and time-consuming application. Here are some must-have brands and formulas to keep on your radar:

St. Tropez In-Shower Golden Glow Gradual Tan ($25)

When life gets busy, it always helps to multi-task. This product from St. Tropez can be applied while you deep condition in the shower. Apply the lotion to wet skin, wait three minutes, and rinse off with warm water. The color is gradual so that you can build a natural-looking tan over time.

Vita Liberata Self Tan Dry Oil SPF 50 ($54)

A product that tans and protects from the sun? Sign us up. The Self Tan Dry Oil from Vita Liberata contains a broad-spectrum SPF 50, and the formula is easy to apply before you head out the door. The product also delivers nourishing anti-aging benefits with Marula, monoi, and neroli oils.

Josie Maran Argan Liquid Gold Self-Tanning Oil ($38)

Formulated with coconut water and aloe juice, this quick-absorbing oil from Josie Maran nourishes skin with a buildable color 4-8 hours that won't look overdone. The product comes with a plush mitt for easy, streak-free application.

Kate Somerville Tanning Towelettes ($48)

Busy summer? These tanning towelettes from Kate Somerville can be thrown in your suitcase or beach bag for whenever you need extra color. The box includes 8 individually-packaged towelettes that deliver a bronze tan that builds within 2-4 hours. For deeper color, use another towelette and reapply as needed.

Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Glow Pad For Body ($45)

Since self-tanner clings to dry skin, it helps to exfoliate beforehand to ensure an even color. Thanks to Dr. Dennis Gross, these Glow Pads combine Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Acids to exfoliate the skin, and DHA to build color simultaneously. It’s a huge time-saver! To use, apply to clean skin in a circular motion and wait ten minutes to dry.

Tan Luxe Hydrating Self-Tan Water ($47)

Out of all the new formulas, self-tan water might be the most innovative. If you haven’t tried it, Tan Luxe THE WATER is a perfect start. The spray is a translucent and stain-free formula that combines purified water, vitamins, oils, and the active ingredient in self-tanner, DHA (dihydroxyacetone). It comes in two shades: Light/Medium and Medium/Dark. The more you spray, the deeper the tan, so go easy on the application at first. Four hours later, you'll see how the color builds, and apply more if needed.

Is there another self-tanner we should add to the list? Let us know with a comment below.
