Beach Bag Beauty Essentials the Mixed Makeup Team Loves

Beach Bag Beauty Essentials the Mixed Makeup Team Loves

A day at the beach calls for a good book, loads of SPF, and refreshing beverages (mojitos, anyone?). And a beach bag filled with the right products could be the difference between sticky and sunburned and Baywatch goddess. Our team rounded up the beach beauty products we need for a day of fun in the sun.

#1 Sunscreen for Face and Body

“If there’s only one thing I can have in my beach bag, it’s always going to be sunscreen. I like Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protector Lotion ($49) because it’s broad spectrum SPF 50+ and great for the face and body. It’s not heavy or sticky feeling, in fact, it feels like a light lotion and very comfortable on the skin. Plus, it’s completely invisible, so it works for all skin tones. I also like that it's water-resistant and features a technology called SynchroShield that kicks in when it senses water, perspiration, or heat. It’s the perfect beach or pool day sunscreen because it works hard through the elements and lasts long!”

#2 Salt Spray for Hair

“I have naturally wavy hair, so the minute I commit to a beach day, I know I’m bringing out my salt spray to play up my texture. Playa Endless Summer Spray ($24) gives that perfect tousled look and has the most amazing scent. I joke that I want my life to smell like this brand because it’s such a beautiful blend of black coconut, orange blossom, sandal wood, and musk.”

#3 Sunglasses

“Sunscreen can only do so much when it comes to protecting the fragile skin around your eyes. If you’re serious about UV protection, you need polarized sunglasses. My go-to brand is still Ray-Ban because they look sleek and don’t feel really heavy. My favorite pair are the Ray-Ban Round Metal lenses ($159) right now!”

#1 Don’t Forget Your Lips

“ I’ve been looking for a good lip balm with SPF for a while and recently purchased this Supergoop! PLAY Lip Balm SPF 30 with Acai ($10) It has a nice texture to it and makes your lips look glossy. It does have a sunscreen taste to it, but it’s not as noticeable as it is with other brands.”

#2 Sun Protection Clothing

“In addition to sunscreen, I always try to cover my skin up as much as possible. I don’t get to show off my swimsuit, but at least my skin is being protected. If I’m swimming, I wear a rashguard like this Roxy Honey Long Sleeve ZipUp UPF 50 Rash Vest ($55) and if I’m sitting out in the sun, I wear a looser button down shirt like this one from REI ($60) that has UPF 50 (UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor).”

#3 Scalp Protection

“My mom used to always apply sunscreen wherever my hair was parted, but that always left my hair looking greasy. This Supergoop! Poof Part Powder ($34) is a nice upgrade from that — it’s like a dry shampoo with SPF 45.”

#1 Beach Hat

“When I’m at the beach, I’ll use whatever means necessary to keep my face out of the sun. Sunscreen is a given, but I take it to the next level. A cute hat can turn your beach outfit into a look, but you can also do what I do and literally lay it on top of your face so there’s another shield between your face and the sun. There are a ton of fun beach hats to shop now, but my go-to is a cowboy raffia hat or a baseball cap.”

#2 Hair Tie

“Everyone with long hair knows the struggle of not having a hair tie when you really need it, and the beach is somewhere I really need it. The inevitable and disgusting beach-heat neck sweat is something I would love to live without. The classic Invisibobble ($8) is my go-to for the beach. They’re lightweight and don’t break easily. If Invisibobbles aren’t your thing, I also love a cute hair clip moment. These tortoise banana clips from J.Crew ($20) are my favorite right now.”

#3 Deodorant

“Anyone who has spent more than 10 minutes outside in the dead of summer knows the struggle. I always have deodorant in my beach bag and you probably should too. At the very least for the drive home so you’re not B.O. hotboxing the car. This LaVanila Sport Luxe Deodorant ($14) is great for its SmartSport sweat protection technology, but whichever deodorant keeps your pits dry and smelling nice is perfect.”

#1 Hair SPF

“I’m an island girl and I love the sun, but it’s important that I’m protecting my skin and hair from its harmful rays. Too much sun and sea dries out my curly hair and makes it super frizzy. I’ve been using Bumble and Bumble’s UV Protective Primer ($28) to help keep my hair frizz free and protected on sunny days.”

#2 Facial Mist

“I always have a facial mist in my beach bag for when I’m feeling sticky. They’re great for hydration and giving a dewy glow, and I love that I can apply them without having to touch my face with sandy hands. I tend to reach for a spray with vitamin C like Olay Ultimate Hydration Essence ($9) for its complexion boosting benefits.”

#3 Body Glow

“On days when my friends and I go directly from the beach to dinner and drinks I like to use a body illuminator to make myself feel a bit more put together. The FENTY Beauty Body Lava ($75) is one of my favorites because it’s lightweight, easy to apply, and looks amazing on tanned skin.”
