Eight Easy Ways to Avoid Getting Ingrown Hairs

Ingrown hairs happen when hair gets trapped under the surface of the skin, resulting in red, painful bumps. (Ouch!) There's no reason to learn to live wit them when you can simply avoid them using the right hair removal methods and products.

In our latest episode of The Cut, Susan Yara shares eight easy ways to prevent those pesky ingrown hairs. We're giving you a sneak peek at a few of the tips below, but you'll have to watch the full video to see the rest!

Go basic with your razor: Contrary to popular belief, two (or three, or five!) blades aren't always better than one. Single-blade razors are gentler on your skin — just make sure it's sharp.

Soak your skin in warm water: This will help soften your skin and hair, causing less resistance against the razor as you shave. (Hello, shower shaving!)

Shave in the right direction: We know, this goes (no pun intended) against everything you've learned — but removing your hair in the same direction that your hair grows means less breakage. When you shave the opposite way, the regrowth can get trapped beneath your skin.

Check out five more ways to prevent ingrown hairs in the video below, then scroll down to shop the products.
