Metallic Eye Makeup: The Fall Makeup Trend Everyone Should Try at Any Age

Metallic Eye Makeup: The Fall Makeup Trend Everyone Should Try at Any Age

Today, we have a treat for you. It’s a popular fall makeup trend that women of all ages can enjoy. Yes, everyone. It’s metallic eye makeup and it comes to you courtesy of celebrity makeup artist, Kelsey Deenihan, who has painted the pretty faces of Lucy Hale, Sarah Hyland and Laura Dern.

The key to make this trend work at any age is to make sure that the color and intensity works for you. “Younger women can go crazy experimenting with different looks using metallic shadows,” says Deenihan. “[They can try] everything from a full smokey metallic eye to simply using a metallic liner, and everything in between.”

But if you feel like you’ve progressed, just make a few modifications. “I would suggest to keep the shadows on the lid and not go above the crease.” says Deenihan. “Keeping the shadow on the lid will prevent any product from settling into any fine lines or creases in the outer corners and above the crease of the eye. The metallic texture tends to grab the light and you don't want it to accentuate any larger pores or fine lines, which come naturally with age.”

Also, skip dark colors and opt for warmer colors like golds, rose golds, bronzes, and champagnes.

To make it simple, the best tool to get this look at any age is an eyeshadow stick, especially if you go dark. “Having a darker shade in a crayon or stick form is going to be highly beneficial in preventing any fall out or unwanted product anywhere other than where you put it.” Deenihan recommends Chanel Stylo Eyeshadow ($34).

A powder version to try is NARS Duel-Intensity Eyeshadow ($29). “The shadows have strong pigment and can be used either wet or dry. I prefer to apply these with a wet brush to really intensify the look.”

And wouldn’t you know it? We recently covered metallic eyes in a video. Watch to get celebrity makeup artist Toby Fleischman’s Fall Makeup tips and product picks.
