How to: Dakota Johnson Met Gala Makeup

For the 2016 Met Gala, Dakota Johnson paired her Gucci gown with an “80’s-inspired, part David Bowie, part Debbie Harry, new romantic” makeup look created by makeup artist Pati Dubroff.

Let's start with acknowledging that Johnson has flawless skin—the epitome of what some serious love and care can do for you. Because of this, Dubroff skipped the skincare step and went straight to primer. For this look, she chose Laura Mercier Foundation Primer ($36) and applied it only to the t-zone.

For foundation, Dubroff applied Laura Mercier Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation in Dune ($48) to the center of her face and brushed it outwards. She mainly focused on areas that needed more coverage and skipped the spots that didn’t. She hid redness and pimples with Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer in SC-3 ($35).

Dubroff’s blush of choice was Surratt Artistique Blush in Parfait ($32) which she applied to the apples of her cheeks and then swept it out towards the temple. She used Laura Mercier Face Illuminator in Devotion ($44) to get a subtle glow that kept with the 80’s inspiration.

Since her eyes were the main event of this makeup look, Dubroff used Laura Mercier Tightline Cake Eyeliner in Black Ebony ($25) to line the upper lash line and lower corner. For a pop of green, she applied Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Peacock ($29) on the inner rim and above the black liner. She then applied MAC Fluidline in Ivy ($17) to the inner rim to intensify the green. To the inner corner and lid, Dubroff applied Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour in Petal Pink ($25) to get extra eye sparkle. She put a little green glitter on the lid and finished off the eyes with Ardell Demi Wispies Black Falsies Eyelashes ($10) and black mascara.

For the lips, Dubroff wanted a pink lip that would make the green eye makeup pop. So she went for Laura Mercier Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colour in Petal Pink ($28).

Did you like Dakota Johnson’s 80’s inspired makeup look? What was your favorite part of the look?
