How to Create an Effective Skincare Routine at Sephora

How to Create an Effective Skincare Routine at Sephora

Creating the perfect skincare routine is easier than you think. In fact, all you need is five easy steps: cleanse, exfoliate, treat, moisturize, and protect. Here are our picks for each step!

STEP ONE: Cleanse

At night, it’s important to double cleanse in order to get rid of all the makeup, dirt, and oil on your face.

The first step in a double cleanse starts with a balm or oil-based cleanser, like the Caudalie Make-Up Removing Cleansing Oil ($28) or the Algenist GENIUS Ultimate Anti-Aging Melting Cleanser ($38).

The second cleanse should be a gel or cream cleanser, like the Kate Somerville Exfoliating Cleanser ($19) for oily skin, the First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser ($21) for sensitive skin, or The Method: Cleanse by Lancer ($55) for all skin types.

STEP TWO: Exfoliate

Exfoliating is an essential part of any skincare routine to get rid of dead skin cells and increase skin cell turnover. Some of our favorite exfoliating products include: REN Ready Steady Glow AHA Tonic ($35), Biossance Squalane + Glycolic Renewal Facial ($68), and Kate Somerville Exfolikate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment ($85).

STEP THREE: Treatment

This step is where you get to address your specific skincare concerns like acne, dark spots, or aging to name a few. We’re big fans of vitamin C to brighten the skin and reduce hyperpigmentation. Our vitamin C serum picks include the Sunday Riley CEO 15% Vitamin C Brightening Serum ($85), Drunk Elephant C-Firma Vitamin C Day Serum ($80), and the Glow Recipe Pineapple-C Brightening Serum ($49).

If aging or acne is your concern, then a good retinol is essential. We like Obagi Clinical Retinol 0.5 Retexturizing Cream ($55), Drunk Elephant A-Passioni Retinol Cream ($74), and REN Bio Retinoid Anti-Wrinkle Concentrate Oil ($69).

STEP FOUR: Moisturize

Even if you have oily skin, moisturizer is a must. Our top picks include: Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet ($39), Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream ($68), Philosophy Renewed Hope in a Jar ($39), and Belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb ($38).

STEP FIVE: Protection

And for the grand finale, protecting your skin with an SPF is crucial no matter your skin type. Some of our favorites are REN Clean Screen Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 ($36), Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection SPF 50+ ($40), and Kate Somerville Uncomplikated SPF 50 Setting Spray ($38).
