Is the Chanel Bronzing Cream Worth the Splurge?

Is the Chanel Bronzing Cream Worth the Splurge?

I’m always a little skeptical about luxury brand makeup lines. I mean, are they really that good to warrant the high price tag? My answer is usually no, but one product I’ve eyed for a long time is the Chanel bronzing cream. It’s $50, so it’s more than I usually spend on a bronzer, yet I’ve seen review after review singing its praises. I’ve also seen makeup artist Nikki La Rose use it on many of her clients, including our very own Susan Yara, and the temptation to buy it has only grown stronger.

However, whenever I think about buying it, it’s always sold out! I usually take this as a good sign for a product and not being able to buy it has made it a very tempting forbidden fruit. I randomly checked Chanel’s website one day to see if it was available, and wouldn’t you know it, there it was, available and ripe for the picking.

Just one note. It appears Chanel has given this product a recent makeover, which is maybe why it’s been out of stock for so long. It was previously called Soleil Tan De Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base and now it is Les Beiges Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream in the (only) shade “Soleil Tan Bronze Universel.”

Before I hit the checkout button, I texted Nikki one more time to see if she’d recommend it for my fair skin. Her response: “Yes, I would. I love that stuff. You would just apply it with a light hand so it doesn’t go on too dark.” Sold!

A week later, it arrived on my doorstep and I immediately put it to work.

It was a lot easier to work with and more forgiving than I expected. I used a light hand as Nikki suggested and built up the coverage to where I wanted it with no issues. The formula was smooth and creamy and didn’t look too orangey or overly noticeable. It blended in beautifully and gave me a “healthy glow” as advertised.

Now, do I recommend it? Yes, absolutely! I’m really happy I finally decided to buy it – no regrets at all. That said, I’m sure there are plenty of “dupes” out there that could help you achieve a similar result for less. But I sure do feel pretty fancy applying Chanel all over my face and it’s nice to feel fancy, especially right now when we’re all quarantined at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

You can watch me apply it and see my full review in this video below.
