Caffeine in Skincare: Do You Need It in Your Routine?

Caffeine in Skincare: Do You Need It in Your Routine?

Caffeine is a popular ingredient found in skincare and body products. It's an anti-inflammatory antioxidant with a bunch of skin benefits. So, here are a few things to know about caffeine in skincare!

Caffeine is an antioxidant, meaning it can help slow down or prevent damage caused by free radicals. We naturally produce free radicals as we age, but habits like drinking, smoking, and UV exposure can accelerate their production.

Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor, meaning it constricts blood flow by thickening the wall of the blood vessel. Your blood vessels are largely responsible for inflammation and dark circles, so restricting blood flow to the area can help make the area look less puffy and irritated. However, if your dark circles are genetic, caffeine products probably won’t do much.

No. There is no evidence that shows that coffee scrubs or products with caffeine can help reduce the appearance of cellulite.

No. Individuals with highly-reactive or sensitive skin should be cautious when using products with caffeine, as caffeine can cause increased sensitivity and redness to the skin. Plus, skincare is highly personal, so everyone tolerates ingredients differently.

The Inkey List Caffeine Eye Cream ($10) is a lightweight eye cream that helps fight puffiness and fine lines. It’s great for all skin types and won’t break the bank!

If you’re a vitamin C lover, you need to check out the Youth To The People 15% Vitamin C + Clean Caffeine Energy Serum ($68). It pairs vitamin C with caffeine to brighten, even, depuff, and firm the skin.

The Origins Ginzing Oil-Free Energy Boosting Gel Moisturizer ($31) is a great moisturizer option for those of you with oily or normal skin. It’s a lightweight gel moisturizer that hydrates for up to 72 hours.
