The Best Hair Removal Products to Get a Smooth Bikini Line at Home

The Best Hair Removal Products to Get a Smooth Bikini Line at Home

Of all the beauty appointments I miss due to the pandemic, Brazilian waxes are high on the list. I’ve waxed religiously for years, so I wasn’t very keen on having to resort to at-home hair removal methods. Shaving can be time consuming, waxing is messy, and I’m not ready to embrace the bush. So after almost a year in quarantine, I’ve learned a few tips and tricks to make grooming my bikini line from home a little more pleasant. And it’s all about having the right products.

Braun Silk-Epil 9 9-890 Epilator ($135)

When it comes to at-home hair removal, epilation is my favorite technique. Let me introduce you to Braun’s epilator – it removes hair from the root instead of trimming it. No need to prep your skin with shaving cream, or even get into the shower, you can epilate from the comfort of your couch (just put a towel down to catch all the hair). The sleek design makes it ideal for maneuvering around the small contours of your bikini line, it can be used wet or dry and comes with multiple head types for all of your hair removal needs. Switching from shaving to epilation has long-term benefits and you will notice your hair growing back more slowly, finely and sparsely. WIN. WIN. WIN.

oui the people “the single” sensitive skin razor ($75)

Not ready to give up on razors, but the one you’re using isn’t cutting it? Try the Oui the People “The Single” razor. It's an ultra-luxe, single-blade razor made with sensitive skin in mind. Its German-engineered, 100 percent stainless steel blade provides a close shave without the hair-pulling and razor burn that usually follows. The weight of the razor helps you get a smooth shave without additional pressure. Unlike your average disposable razor, all you need is one or two passes, to remove even the thickest hair. No need for additional pressure or repeat strokes; thus cutting down on irritation and risk of ingrown hairs. It’s quite the splurge, but a future free of ingrown hairs is worth every penny.

Pro Tip: Change your blade every three to five uses to avoid shaving with a blunt blade and decrease the risk of ingrown hairs. The razor comes with a pack of ten blades and you can buy refills on their website.

Genuine Korean Exfoliating Scrub Bath Mitten, 20-pack ($8)

Exfoliating before and a few days after hair removal is a vital step in preventing bumps and ingrown hairs. There are so many exfoliation options on the market. From physical scrubs, chemical exfoliants, to scrubby mitts, it all comes down to what you like best. My favorite way to exfoliate is with these Korean Exfoliating Bath Mittens, I use them all over my body including my bikini line. They are great for scrubbing away dead skin and providing a smooth surface before removing the hair. I use them on damp skin, in the shower, and they leave my whole body feeling baby smooth.

Fur Oil ($46)

Beauty editors cannot stop raving about this natural body oil designed specifically for your pubic hair. Fur Oil is formulated with grapeseed oil, jojoba oil, clary sage oil, and tea tree oil to soften and prepare the skin for a razor-burn-free shave. If you prefer to go au natural, you can use the oil as a leave-in conditioner for your nether regions to keep the hair soft and moisturized. Another perk? Adding Fur Oil to my shower routine made it feel extra luxurious, and I’m always down for an at-home spa.

OUI The People Hydrating Bikini Mask ($8)

If you really want to pamper yourself, treat yourself to a hydrating bikini mask. This ultra-hydrating mask is infused with honey extract, niacinamide, and skin-clearing witch hazel to keep your lines in check. It’s great for if you want to nix ingrown hairs, calm razor burn, or even embrace the bush.

MALIN+GOETZ Ingrown Hair Cream ($34)

If you’re prone to ingrown hairs, Malin + Goetz Ingrown Hair Cream is the answer for smooth, bump-free skin. This treatment contains glycolic and salicylic acid to exfoliate, vitamin B5 to repair the skin, as well as allantoin and chamomile to calm and soothe irritation. It’s gentle enough to use on your bikini area and effective enough to use everywhere else too.
