Makeup for Redheads: Get a Natural Look with These Products

Makeup for Redheads: Get a Natural Look with These Products

If you’re reading this, you’re probably a redhead. And you’re also likely looking to find the right makeup products that complement your red hair. Well, you’ve come to the right place. As a natural redhead with 30 years under my belt, I’d say I’m an expert on the subject. Here are my tried-and-true favorites makeup products for redheads that’ll help you achieve a natural look.

Brows

The brow category is the best place to start because it’s the trickiest makeup product to get right. A lot of the time, brow products for redheads look unnatural and lean more fiery red than natural copper red. So when my favorite brow product ever – Glossier Boy Brow ($16) – came out with an Auburn shade, I instantly clicked “add to cart.” Glossier really nailed it with this shade – it has just the right amount of red that doesn’t look fake or too orangey. Watch this video to see what it looks like in action. Shade-aside, boy brow is just the perfect brow product in my opinion. It gives you the right amount of hold, definition, and tint. Just get it, you can thank me later.

As for pencils, I always tend to look for warm blonde or strawberry blonde shades because they look the most natural. Some great options are Hourglass Arch Brow Micro Sculpting Pencil ($28) in “Warm Blonde” or Fenty Beauty Brow MVP Ultra Fine Brow Pencil ($20) in “Soft Red”.

Mascara

Black mascara may be universal, but when I switched to brown mascara it made all the difference in my makeup looks. It’s a super subtle difference, but brown mascara is less harsh than black and it just fits better with the warm tones that come with being a redhead. My go-to brown mascara comes from the drugstore – L’Oréal Voluminous Mascara ($9) in the “black/brown” shade. This mascara gives me the fullest, fluttery lashes and stays put. If you’re looking for a more true brown color, then Benefit’s They’re Real! Lengthening Mascara ($25) is a wonderful option.

Now if you want to take your mascara in a true redhead direction, then let me introduce you to Redhead Revolution – a makeup company that focuses on makeup for redheads. Their Gingerlash Mascara ($19) comes in two shades: “Honest Auburn” (reddish-brown) and “Geniune Ginger” (warm light brown). Watch me test them out and share my review in the video below.

Tinted Moisturizer with spf

This category isn’t really as tricky as brows and mascara, but I decided to include it because when you’re a redhead, you likely have freckles and sometimes you want to let your freckles shine through. And you’re probably more sensitive to the sun, so you’ll also need at least SPF 30 or higher. bareMinerals Complexion Rescue SPF 30 ($33) has been a go-to for me for a long time. It gives you the perfect hint of coverage and feels light on your skin. I usually go with the “Birch” shade, but they have 20 shades to choose from.

When I want more of a glow, I reach for Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 ($46) in the shade “Balos.” It gives light dewy coverage and contains skincare ingredient favorites like niacinamide, squalane, and hyaluronic acid.
