Magnesium Oil Spray: How It Can Benefit Your Skin and Overall Health

Magnesium Oil Spray: How It Can Benefit Your Skin and Overall Health

A few years ago, I found out from my doctor at a routine check-up that I was deficient in magnesium. I eat a well-balanced diet and take vitamins and supplements, so I was a little surprised. That was until I found out that close to 80% of the population is missing out on this essential mineral that plays a crucial role in 300+ biochemical reactions in our bodies each day. This includes energy production, calcium absorption, hormonal health, muscle function, sleep, blood pressure regulation, and detoxification and weight loss. And, also? For a glowing and healthy complexion.

To reap the benefits of the magic mineral, it takes more than a well-balanced diet. According to nutritionist Carolyn Dean, author of The Magnesium Miracle, it's due to the shortage of magnesium in the dirt. "Magnesium has been farmed out of the soil, so it's not in vegetables, and animals don't get it from the plants that they eat."

The good news is that magnesium gives us one less supplement to swallow—especially since magnesium can irritate the stomach. "The reality is that we absorb magnesium at a much higher and much faster rate through the skin," says NYC board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Dendy Engelman. "It's quick, easy, and effective." Dr. Engleman recommends using transdermal magnesium for its overall health benefits, as well as healthy and glowing complexion by treating acne, dry skin, redness, and just about every reason I visit my dermatologist each year.

Dr. Engleman suggests the magnesium oil spray from BetterYou to her patients. I also love the magnesium spray by Ancient Minerals. Of course, like with any supplement, it's important to check with your doctor if you're unsure how much you need. I started with 8 to ten pumps on my skin per day.

To use, spray the magnesium oil on clean skin and massage it in thoroughly. It feels a little tingly and itchy as it absorbs, but that goes away over time. The best part is since the product is in my daily skincare routine, it’s almost impossible to forget about.  As far as I’m concerned, magnesium oil spray is one of the most convenient ways to achieve smooth and hydrated skin that also benefits your overall health.
